COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland baseball team will feature seven players in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League All-Star game and one in the New England Collegiate Baseball League All-Star game as summer baseball reaches its midway point.
The Terps seven CRCBL All-Stars is a league high. Sophomore Hunter Parsons leads the group on the North Team after being named CRCBL Pitcher of the Week on Monday. The right-hander has starred for the Baltimore Redbirds, leading the league in ERA (1.16), wins (6) and strikeouts (36).
Jared Price and Mike Rescigno join Parsons on the North's pitching staff. Price, pitching for the Silver Spring-Tacoma Thunderbolts, is second in the CRCBL in saves with four and sports a 4.32 ERA. Rescigno, who was drafted in the 25th round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants, has been lights out from the bullpen for the Redbirds with a 0.75 ERA with 13 strikeouts to two walks in 12.0 innings of work.
Incoming freshman lefty Tyler Blohm has also been a force for the Redbirds, sporting a 1-0 record with a 2.11 ERA and 18 strikeouts to four walks in 17.0 innings pitched. Blohm is also holding opposing hitters to a .180 average.
Freshman All-American Marty Costes leads Maryland's position player contingent on the North Team. The Baltimore native has been red hot for the Redbirds, ranking t-2 in the league in home runs with six while sporting a .326 average and .596 slugging percentage. Senior Nick Cieri sits just behind Costes in homers with five and is batting .333 with a .623 slugging percentage. Cieri earned CRCBL Player of the Week honors last week after slugging three home runs and notching 10 RBI in a single game against the Vienna Riverdogs.
Junior catcher Justin Morris is Maryland lone representative on the South Team. The Bethesda Big Train star holds a .261 average with six doubles and four triples so far this summer.
The CRCBL All-Star Game will be played July 13 at Shirley Povich Field in Rockville. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
In the NECBL, Zach Jancarski will start for the North Division team after a solid summer so far with Sanford. His 13 stolen bases leads the league and .333 average is sixth.
The NECBL All-Star Game will be hosted by the Newport Gulls at Cardines Field on Sunday, July 17.
