WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Three Terps scored twice as the No. 2 Maryland women's lacrosse team (1-0) defeated William & Mary (0-1) 13-3 on Saturday afternoon to open the 2017 season.

Senior attacker Caroline Wannen, junior attacker Kacie Longo and sophomore midfielder Jen Giles each found the back of the net twice. Senior midfielder Zoe Stukenberg, junior attacker Megan Whittle, sophomore attacker Caroline Steele and junior attacker Taylor Hensh each scored once. In their collegiate debuts, midfielders Kali Hartshorn, Lizzie Colson and Hannah Warther also scored one goal each.

Sophomore goalie Megan Taylor made eight saves and notched a .727 save percentage. She also caused two turnovers and picked up three ground balls.

The Tribe got on the board first before Giles tied it at 26:10. Hartshorn scored, but William & Mary tied the game for the final time at 20:01.

Taylor and the Maryland defense didn't allow another Tribe goal until 3:46 remaining in the second half. The Terps scored 10 unanswered goals, including two straight from Wannen.

Whittle scored on a free position, and Longo tallied her goals back-to-back in the second half as the Terps kept the run going. After the Tribe's final goal, Warther finished the scoring with just over two minutes left.

Making her collegiate debut after redshirting last season, defender Meghan Doherty paced the defense with two caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Hartshorn took the draw for Maryland, pulling down four draw controls while Stukenberg grabbed three.

Maryland is now 34-9 all-time in season openers. Head coach Cathy Reese is undefeated to start the season in 11 years at Maryland.

The Terps are back in action at Georgetown next Saturday at 1 p.m.
