CHICAGO – Maryland women's tennis player Ekaterina Tour was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week on Tuesday. The junior is the first Terp to win the award this season, and is Maryland's first winner since Alexandra Stanova in 2016.
Tour went 2-0 on the weekend to lead Maryland to a program-record 14 wins in a single spring season. Playing at the No. 2 singles position, she picked up a win over Ksenjia Tihomirova (6-3, 6-1) of Rutgers.
The Tel Aviv native also won her team-high 13th doubles match of the season with partner Caroline Williams. The duo defeated Tihomirova and Chole Lee of Rutgers by a score of 6-1.
Tour has been a main contributor this spring for the Terps. She currently has the team-high in both doubles and singles victories, including a 7-1 doubles record in conference play.
The award is the Academic All-Big Ten honoree's first of her career.
Tour and the Terps will be back in action on Friday when they take on Minnesota at the Tennis Club of College Park.
