COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Led by the play of its seniors, the Maryland women's tennis team ended its regular season with a 4-0 victory over Wisconsin on Sunday.
The Terps also celebrated the careers of their four seniors: Alexandra Stanova, Kristina Hovsepyan, Cassandre Thebault and Olivia Gaudreault.
Maryland controlled play from the beginning of the match, picking up the doubles point for the 18th time this season. Doubles duos of Ekaterina Tour and Caroline Williams, and Kristina Hovsepyan and Alexandra Stanova picked up wins to give Maryland a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Tour kept the Terps going to kick off singles play, picking up a dominant 6-3, 6-0 win over Kelsey Grambeau at second singles. Stanova then followed suit shortly after, extending Maryland's lead to 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-2 win at first singles.
Hovsepyan then closed out the win for the Terps, earning a 6-3, 6-2 win at fourth singles.
"I think we sent our seniors out the right way today," head coach Daria Panova said. "All of them got to play and contribute to our win. I'm proud of the way we played as a team today and we closed out the regular season with a nice victory. It has been a great regular season for us and we're looking forward to continuing next weekend at Illinois."
Maryland will be back in action next Friday when they begin play at the Big Ten Tournament, hosted by the University of Illinois.
