Men's Lacrosse Maryland Athletics

Rambo, Muller Earn Top National Awards

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland men's lacrosse senior attackman Matt Rambo has earned the Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award for the nation's most outstanding player as announced today by the United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.

Additionally, senior attackman Tim Muller earned the William C. Schmeisser Award for the nation's most outstanding defensive player.

Rambo is just the fourth player in Maryland history to win the Enners Award, joining Brian Dougherty (1995), Frank Urso (1975) and Doug Schreiber (1973).

Muller is the 10th Terrrapin in history to take home the Schmeisser Award, and first since Lee Zink in 2004. Other Terps to win the Schmeisser are Michael Howley (2003), Dan Radebaugh (1995), BJ Burlace (1992), Mike Farrell (1976), Mike Thearle (1973), John Simmons (1956), William Hubbell (1952) and Robert Fetters (1946).

A 2017 Tewaaraton finalist, Rambo has completely shattered the Maryland record books during his illustrious career. The program's all-time leader in points, he needs just one more goal to become the program's leader in goals. He has totaled 83 points in 2017 – second-best in Maryland single-season history – and recently became the first player to total 40 goals and 40 assists in a season at Maryland.

Rambo has also played his best under the brightest lights, totaling 58 career points in 13 NCAA Tournament games. The mark is tied with Mikey Powell and Steele Stanwick for most career points since 2000.

Long recognized as one of the best defenders in the country, Muller is the first Maryland player to win the Schmeisser since 2004. A two-time All-American, he has totaled 31 ground balls and caused 16 turnovers, in addition to scoring a career-high four goals this year. Muller has helped lead the Terps to a Championship Weekend appearance all four seasons.

Rambo, Muller and the Terps return to action Saturday at 2:30 pm against Denver in the NCAA Semifinals at Gillette Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
