Throughout the 2018-19 season, umterps.com will run a Q&A series with members of the Maryland wrestling team and staff. Fans will get to know more about their background and wrestling history, as well as some fun facts they may not have known before. Next up: Anthony Sountis!
On coming to Maryland and how Maryland differs from SUNY Oswego:
"It's certainly a lot warmer down here! Upstate New York is really cold the lake effect gives you about 200 inches of snow per year. The size of the school is also a lot different. I think total at Oswego was 7,000, so there's certainly a lot more students here. I like that and I like being in a bigger place. And after growing up and watching Big Ten and ACC sports on TV, this is pretty crazy for me."
Â
On what he learned as a person and wrestler during his time at Oswego:
"I just learned that you have to focus a lot on technique. College wrestling is definitely different compared to high school. I wanted to pick up hand fighting and just be a little bit tougher when I got to this level."Â
Â
On what he likes about Maryland:
"I love the campus -- it's really beautiful. I also love this team and the wrestling room. Athletics as a whole is really important here, so it feels like home. I get a smile every time I walk into the XFINITY Center. It's always a good feeling."
Â
On his favorite wrestling memory:Â
"Going to Fargo was a lot of fun just because it took me out of my comfort zone. I'd also say making the second day Eastern States my senior year because that was definitely one of the main goals I had going into the year."Â
Â
On his goals for this season:
" I want to try and make the starting lineup for sure. I also want to have a winning record at the end of the year and I want to be able to get as many bonus points in my favor, while also limiting how many I allow."Â
Â
On how he would describe himself as a wrestler:
"I'd say I'm pretty tough. I really hate being turned and I hate being pinned even more. I try to stay as tough as possible and I just try to be in your face for seven minutes."Â
Â
On who he's been working with since he got to Maryland:
"I've worked a lot with everyone. I've spent a lot of time
Michael Doetsch -- he's been a really good person to roll around with. Chase Demaille has also been a good partner. He's hard to score on we've gotten into a lot of scrambling situations. It's good to say that I got my butt kicked since I got here. It helps me get better."

Favorite food in College Park:
"Chick-fil-A"
