Terps Announce Five 2019 Signees

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Head coach Julie Wright of the Maryland softball program announced the addition of five future Terrapins who signed National Letters of Intent to play at the University of Maryland next season.

"I am very excited about these outstanding young women," Head Coach Julie Wright said. "They are athletic, well-skilled, have a thirst for knowledge, and are incredible teammates.  I am thrilled to welcome them to our Terp family."

The class of 2019 will bolster an already talent-rich roster next year for Maryland, as Wright begins her fourth season at the helm for UMD in the spring. This year's recruiting class is ranked No. 50 nationally by FloSoftball, up from No. 71 last year. Below is a look at each signee.

Plays for highly recognized/competitive travel ball organization: Demarini Aces… coached by Ryan Taylor… Flo Softball Top 100 ranked player in the 2019 class… First team All-East Kansas League infield back-to-back years… First team Sunflower League infield… First team All-State infield… recognized as All Star Preps Best of Kansas… sister plays softball at Nova Southeastern University

WRIGHT ON ANDERSON
"Ashlyn is a dynamic player who brings many tools to our program. She is a game changer on defense, can run, and can hit for power. She is a fantastic young lady who fits right into our system. I believe she will do big things in her career as a Terp and cannot wait to get her here."

Named Washington Post All-Met first team following her junior campaign at Montgomery Blair; second team her sophomore year; honorable mention after her freshman year… coached by Louis Hoelman at Blair… recognized on FloSoftball Hot 100 list following her freshman season… won Most Valuable Player at Blair back-to-back years… hurled five no-hitters; finished the year in the Circle with a 0.94 ERA; recorded 256 strikeouts in 126 innings; an overall 17-3 Record; earned a .489 batting average while ripping 4-home runs of which one was a grand slam… honored as Finalist for the Gatorade Player of the Year Award… played travel ball with the Birmingham Thunderbolts and Lady Lightning Gold

"Courtney is a hometown girl who I am proud chose to represent the Terps. She is a power pitcher with great knowledge and love for the game, but probably my favorite thing about her is her competitive fire in the circle. She has all the tools to be elite and is one of the best young women I know. We can't wait for her to step on campus."

Three-time All-Met… Three-time All-County, and Varsity starter since Freshman year at Hammond High School...holds the county home run record for the last two years… Varsity Captain of both her softball and basketball teams… National Honor Society, President of the Student Leadership Cadre, Three year Dean's List…. Plays club ball for the Birmingham Thunderbolts 18U Premier, led by Coach Rocky Thompson.

"Taylor is a program kid who chose to stay home and play in front of friends and family. She is the kind of young lady you will hate to see graduate because of all the things she brings to the table. She works hard, plays for something bigger than her, and flat out finds a way to get it done. I see her as a future leader and expect big things from her."

Baltimore Sun 2018 All-Metro Softball Player of the Year… Two-time Capital Gazette Softball Player of the Year following a sophomore season in which she batted .611 with 23 RBIs and 18 stolen bases, as well as going 4-1 with three saves in the circle with a 2.33 ERA and a junior season in which she led her team to a 25-2 record and the Class 4A state championship by batting .750 an a state record 69 hits… named the Gatorade Maryland Softball player of the Year… needs 18 hits to break the state record for career hits (166)… has been held hitless only six times in her high school career… plays travel ball for Wagners and fills in for the 18U Green Hornets A team

"Campbell has really been coming on as an athlete and a player over the last year and with everyday training has the ability to have a big impact on our team. Campbell is a true triple threat with a great work ethic and a thirst for the game. She is an awesome young lady and we are thrilled she chose to stay home and be a Terp."
