Terps Close 2018 Midlands Championships

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. -- Brandon Cray and Josh Ugalde each advanced to Saturday's Blood Round as the Maryland wrestling team wrapped up the 56th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships on Saturday.

Both wrestlers lost by decision in the round that determines whether the wrestler places in the event. Cray fell via a 2-1 decision to Justin Cardani (Illinois) after Cardani earned points via a hands to the face penalty and riding time. Ugalde dropped his match to Ben Harvey (Army West Point), 7-2.

The two New Jersey natives shined throughout the event, with each picking up a trio of victories. Cray tallied two pins in the 125-pound flight, while Ugalde upset the 14th and third-seeded wrestlers in the 174-pound weight class.
