Kelly Named Tewaaraton Finalist

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland men's lacrosse senior midfielder Connor Kelly has been selected as one of five finalists for the prestigious Tewaaraton Award, which annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States.

Kelly is just the third Maryland player in history to be selected as a finalist, joining Matt Rambo (2017) and Joe Walters (2006). Rambo became the first recipient of the award in program history last season. The award was first presented in 2001.

Kelly has been invited to the 18th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony on Thursday, May 31 in Washington, D.C., where a winner will be selected.

Kelly will be joined at the ceremony by fellow finalists: Trevor Baptiste (Denver), Justin Guterding (Duke), Ben Reeves (Yale) and Pat Spencer (Loyola).

The Easton, Conn., native has pieced together one of the greatest seasons in Maryland history, totaling 73 points on 42 goals and 31 assists thus far. He recently joined Rambo as the only players in Maryland history to record 40 goals and 30 assists in a single-season.

More importantly, Kelly has been the offensive catalyst for a Terrapin program that enters the NCAA Touranment as the number one overall seed for the third consecutive season. The Terps played the second toughest schedule in the country and posted the top-ranked RPI.

The Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and a 2017 USILA First Team All-American, Kelly memorably had a 10-pt game earlier this season against Notre Dame on three goals and seven assists. Both the point and assist totals were Terrapin single-game bests since the legendary Bob Boneillo achieved the feat in 1979.

Kelly leads the Terrapins into the NCAA Tournament this weekend when they host Robert Morris Sunday at noon in the NCAA First Round. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
