USA, Former Terps Claim World Championship

NETANYA, ISRAEL – Michael Ehrhardt ('14) was named Most Valuable Player of the 2018 FIL World Championships as he led Team USA to its 10th world title with a dramatic 9-8 victory over rival Canada Saturday in Netanya, Israel.

Maryland had the most former players of any school represented on Team USA, with Ehrhardt being joined by Jake Bernhardt ('13), Jesse Bernhardt ('13), John Haus ('13) and Drew Snider ('12). Jesse Bernhardt is currently the Terrapins' defensive coordinator.

Team USA never lost in the tournament, winning all seven games on the road to the championship. The championship final against Canada, which began at 3:00 am EST Saturday, was a thriller. Tom Schreiber scored the game-winner as time expired to propel USA to victory.

Ehrhardt was spectacular throughout the tournament en route to earning MVP honors, picking up 26 ground balls and playing expert defense throughout. He scored a pair of massive transition goals in the semifinals against Australia that proved to be a spark plug for the Americans.

Jake and Jesse Bernhardt were also vital in Team USA's defensive effort, with Jake starring at short stick defensive midfield and Jesse at close defense. The American defense allowed just 5.3 goals/g in its seven victories.

Snider and Haus were vital on the offensive end throughout the tournament, with Snider posting six goals and four assists and Haus notching eight goals and three assists.
