ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Four Terps earned victories but the Maryland wrestling team fell to in-state foe Navy, 21-12, on Friday.

The match included wins from Michael Doetsch, Philip Spadafora, Kyle Jasenski, and Jaron Smith. Doetsch and Jasenski each move to 3-0 in dual competition this season, while Spadafora and Smith earned their first dual victories of the season.

Doetsch recorded the only bonus-point victory for the Terps, taking down Navy's Morgan Fuenffinger with a 9-1 major decision. The only other bonus-point victory of the match was at heavyweight, where Navy's John Birchmeier pinned Parker Robinson to close out the match and clinch the win for the Midshipmen.

Maryland lost its opening three bouts as Brandon Cray dropped a 5-0 decision to Logan Treaster at 125 pounds, King Sandoval dropped a 5-2 decision to Casey Cobb at 133 pounds, and Hunter Baxter dropped a 8-1 decision to Cody Trybus at 141 pounds.

Only trailing 9-0 in the match following the first three bouts, Michael Doetsch picked up a bonus-point win over Morgan Fuenffinger with a 9-1 major decision that got Maryland within five, but Lucas Cordio fell to Scout Skidgel via a 9-3 decision to put the Terps back 12-4 going into the intermission.

Kyle Cochran lost a hard-fought bout to No. 9 Tanner Skidgel via a 6-2 decision at 165 pounds, but Maryland then went on a run to get back into contention.

Philip Spadafora, ranked 20^th in the country via Intermat, Kyle Jasenski, and Jaron Smith rattled off back-to-back-to-back victories to get Maryland within three. In the final bout, needing bonus points to secure a team win, Parker Robinson lost by fall to Navy's John Birchmeier.

Maryland (1-2, 0-0 B1G) opens its Big Ten slate tomorrow with a dual at the Rutgers Athletics Center in Piscataway, N.J. For full results from Maryland's dual against Navy, see below.
