#7 Terps Blow Past Huskers, 89-63

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Junior Kaila Charles scored 22 points, junior Blair Watson added 17 and the seventh-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (23-2, 12-2 B1G) used a big third quarter to roar past Nebraska, 89-63, at the XFINITY Center on Thursday.

Senior Brianna Fraser added 14 points and eight boards and freshman Shakira Austin and junior Stephanie Jones each scored 10 points to help Maryland win its eighth straight game.

The night also saw freshman Taylor Mikesell break the freshman three-pointer record, knocking down a three-pointer in the third quarter for her 72nd of the season. She'd later go on to add another, now sitting with 73 threes through 25 contests.

The Terrapins sprinted out of the gates, hitting their first four shots for a 9-0 lead that forced an early Nebraska timeout.

The Cornhuskers responded, staying within striking distance for the remainder of the first half.

However, Maryland took control and never looked back to begin the second half, using a 16-0 run to extend its lead as the teams entered the fourth quarter. The run was capped by a deep three-pointer from Watson, who beat the buzzer to make it 69-45. The Terps continued their strong play in the game's final 10 minutes, scoring 20 points in the fourth quarter to cruise to the 26-point win.

Maryland's defense was solid throughout, forcing 19 Cornhusker turnovers in the contest. Nebraska's Leigha Brown, who was coming off a 30-point performance against Purdue on Sunday, was limited to five points

Maryland improved to 11-0 all-time against Nebraska, including an 81-63 win earlier this season. The Terps have won their last three games by a combined 57 points.

As a program, Maryland has earned a record of 995-424 (.701) and needs five wins to reach 1,000.

Next, the Terrapins will travel to Iowa City to take on No. 14 Iowa (20-5, 11-3) Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. The Terps-Hawkeyes game will be televised around the world on ESPN2, the Watch ESPN app and the WatchESPN.com.
