COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Day one of the Florida Relays competition was highlighted by several lifetime and season bests that will set up individuals well for post-season qualifications.
Dashawn Morris and Kameron Jones ran blazing times in the 400m, en route to No. 2 and 3 all-time in the Maryland record books, respectively. Morris' 46.40 got him a top-10 performance, finishing eighth overall, while Jones' 46.52 won his section and was good for a 12th place performance. Aaron Robinson also ran a great time in the 400m with a 48.09.
Jewel Smith crushed the field and took home first place after her first attempt in the long jump. Smith jumped a lifetime best of 6.21m and picked up the first win of her outdoor season.
In the women's 1500m run, Alexandra Lucki set a new personal-best time of 4:18.62, #2 in the Maryland record books. Lucki finished fourth in a tight sprint to the finish. Christine Laurie ran 4:30.46 and Brittany Lang finished in 4.40.32.
In the women's 4x400m relay, the squad of Santiago, Jones, Ward and Fagan finished seventh with a 3.41.07 and qualified for the finals in this event.
In the women's 100m dash, Bria Mack clocked a time of 11.85 and Jaida Smith ran 11.98.
In the women's 400m dash, Cheyenne Jones ran 55.44 for a season best and Destiny Ward crossed the line in 56.59. Freshman Mackenzie Morgan finished the women's 800m run in 2:12.59.
In the women's 400m hurdles, Xahria Santiago ran her first hurdle race of the season clocking 1:01.05 and Thaila Cooper posted a time of 1:01.86.
In the women's invite high jump, Mikella Lefebvre-Oatis cleared 1.71m in the elite competition.
In the men's invite high jump, Sam Shoultz cleared 2.06m to take home fifth place.
In the men's 4x400m relay, the squad of Robinson, Jones, Miawad and Morris finished seventh with a 3:08.78 and will move on to the finals in this event.
Maryland will wrap up competition at the Florida Relays Saturday, while the split squad will also compete at the Navy Spring Invitational in Annapolis, Md.
