CONCORD, Pa. -- Maryland women's lacrosse assistant coach
Lauri Kenis was inducted into the Delaware County Athletes Hall of Fame on Sunday evening.
Kenis, who is from Haverford, Pennsylvania in Delaware County was one of 17 individuals inducted into the Hall of Fame at last night's 80th annual dinner after a prolific playing and coaching career in women's lacrosse.
As a student-athlete at the University of Virginia, Kenis helped the Virginia Cavaliers to a pair of NCAA finals appearances and also led them to two berths in the ACC finals. The four-year letterwinner was a two-time all-conference honoree while earning NCAA and ACC All-Tournament accolades.
Kenis ranks third all-time in Virginia history with 107 caused turnovers and started every game in her final two seasons in Charlottesville. She was a two-time member of the Virginia All-State team and ranked second on the team in ground balls and caused turnovers in her junior and senior seasons. The 2003 graduate is also in the US Lacrosse-Charlottesville Hall of Fame.
Currently in her 15th season as an assistant coach at Maryland, Kenis has helped the Terps return to the upper echelon in the sport, and has helped lead Maryland to the 2010, 2014, 2015 and 2017 NCAA Championships.
This season, Kenis' defense has been one of the best in the country, leading the Big Ten and ranking third in the country, only allowing 6.87 goals per game. Senior goalie
Megan Taylor leads the nation with a .598 save percentage and has won the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week six times and IWLCA National Player of the Week three times. As a team, Maryland has held 11 opponents to under 10 goals this season and six opponents to under five goals.
