OPELIKA, Ala. – Sophomore
Virunpat Olankitkunchai of the Maryland women's golf team is still atop the leaderboard after the second round of the 2019 NCAA Division I Women's Regional Tuesday at Auburn.
Olankitkunchai shot a two-under 70 for the second straight day and is four strokes under total. She is tied with Vanderbilt's Auston Kim and Murray State's Linette Holmslykke for the one-stroke lead. Olankitkunchai birdied the fifth, eighth and 16
th holes.
The Terrapins sit at eighth out of 18 teams with a combined score of 591 (294-297), which is +9 overall. They are two strokes behind No. 13 Auburn and No. 42 Tennessee for sixth. The top six teams after three rounds advance to the NCAA Championships.
No. 52 Maryland is two strokes ahead of No. 22 Furman and also lead No. 31 Houston, No. 38 Alabama, No. 46 California and No. 27 Clemson.
Sophomore
Laura Van Respaille went three strokes over with a 75 in Tuesday's second round. She is +4 overall and is tied for 28
th.
Junior
Xiaolin Tian also shot a 75 Tuesday for the second straight day and is +6 overall with her score of 150.
Senior
Ludovica Farina was five strokes over par Tuesday with a 77. She owns a combined score of 153, which is +9 total. Freshman
Elena Verticchio improved her score of two strokes Tuesday with a 79. She birdied the 12
th and 16
th holes Tuesday.
This is the fifth all-time trip to regionals for the Terrapins and a first for head coach
Diana Cantu.
The Terrapins are the 13-seed in the Auburn region and are playing at the Saugahatchee Country Club in Opelika, Ala. The low six teams and three individuals not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.
The Terps will tee off in the third and final round at 9:00 a.m. ET Wednesday.

Olankitkunchai finished tied for fifth and was named to the All-Big Ten First Team and All-Big Ten Championship Team.
The national championships will be May 17-22 at The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas hosted by the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.
