KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Maryland's women's golf team wrapped up at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship Tuesday, finishing in 5th out of 16 teams at the Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn. 

Junior Virunpat Olankitkunchai led Maryland with her score of 213 (75-69-69), which was two strokes under par overall. She had four birdies in the second and third round Tuesday and tied for 11th in the tournament. 

Competing as an individual, junior Charlotte Lafourcade tied for 18th with her overall score of 216 (72-70-74), which was three strokes over total. 

"We improved on our performance from last week," head coach Diana Cantu said. "We played more solid and I think we are headed in the right direction. We have made some good adjustments and I think that we are continuing to learn, as it is still early in the season. This team is capable of greatness and we are working hard to get there." 

Freshman Maria Vittoria Corbi, senior Xiaolin Tian and junior Laura Van Respaille all  tied for 36th with scores of 221. Corbi picked up three birdies in the final round to earn her final score (72-76-73). Tian also made three birdies in Tuesday's final round for her score (75-72-74). Van Respaille shot a 78 Tuesday, after shooting a 70 in the first round and 73 in the second round Monday. All three were +8. 

In her first collegiate tournament, freshman Angela Garvin picked up five birdies in the second round Monday and three in the third round Tuesday to earn a score of 228 (83-71-74).

As a team, Maryland earned an overall a tournament score of 867 (292-285-290), which was +15. 

Coming up, the Terrapins will compete in the Illini Invitational at Medinah in Medinah, Illinois Oct. 7-8.
