Ashley Owusu Named to Fab 15 Freshmen List

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Freshman Ashley Owusu of the Big Ten champion Maryland women's basketball team was named a Her Hoop Stats Fab 15 Freshman Thursday, in conjunction with the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA).
 
The players were selected from the nation's 32 conference freshmen of the year recipients. These 15 players dominated their conferences and ranked highly among freshmen and all players in the nation in various statistical categories.
 
Named to the All-Big Ten Second Team, Owusu was also voted Big Ten Freshman of the Year by both the league's head coaches and media panel. In her first year at the collegiate level, she was second on the Maryland roster in scoring at 12.0 points per game, and second in the Big Ten with 5.4 assists per game.
 
Owusu led the Terps to their fourth Big Ten Tournament title in six years. She led the team in scoring in the three-game run with 15.3 points, 8.0 assists and 5.7 boards per game. She was named Big Ten Tournament MVP.
 
In her first year in the Big Ten, she scored in double figures in 10 conference games, plus all three in the Big Ten Tournament.
