Miller, Owusu Named to Wade, Wooden, Naismith Watch Lists

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Juniors Diamond Miller and Ashley Owusu of the fourth-ranked Maryland women's basketball team were both named to the Wooden Award Top 50, "Wade Watch" and Naismith Trophy watch lists for the national player of the year honors Tuesday.

Miller and Owusu are two of 30 players named to the "Wade Watch" list of candidates for the 2022 Wade Trophy presented to the best player in college women's basketball, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced today.

A full third of the list — 10 players — comes from Big Ten Conference institutions. Maryland is one of seven schools with two players named. Click here for the full list.

The duo was also named to the Wooden Award Top 50. Chosen by a preseason poll of national college basketball experts, the list is comprised of 50 student-athletes who are the early front-runners for the most prestigious honors in college basketball, the Wooden Award All American Team and Most Outstanding Player Award. Miller and Owusu were also named to the Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy watch list Tuesday. Click here for the full list.

Last month, Miller and Owusu were voted to the 10-player Preseason All-Big Ten Team by both groups. Owusu was a unanimous selection by the coaches.

Both Owusu and Miller earned All-Big Ten First Team honors last season and they were named Co-Big Ten Tournament MOPs.

They were Maryland's top two scorers, with Owusu averaging 17.9 points and Miller averaging 17.3 points per game. The Terps led the nation in scoring with 90.8 points per game and No. 1 in the country in assist/turnover ratio (1.69). They helped lead the Terrapins to a record of 26-3 overall and 17-1 in league play.

Maryland returns all five starters, all five All-Big Ten honorees and 10 of 11 letterwinners from last year's Big Ten Championship squad. The Terrapins return their top eight leading scorers from last year's squad.

The Terrapins will host Villanova at the XFINITY Center Friday at 7 p.m. The matchup will be streamed on B1G+. Tickets are available at umterps.com.
