#8 Maryland to Take On Iowa Tuesday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The eighth-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (16-2, 12-1 B1G) will host Iowa (12-6, 8-6) Tuesday at 1 p.m. ET at the XFINITY Center. The Terps-Hawkeyes game will be televised on the Big Ten Network. Fans can watch on the Fox Sports all and FoxSports.com using their cable login information.

What's UP
  • Maryland dominated Minnesota from the tip for a 94-62 win Saturday at the XFINITY Center. Ashley Owusu led the way with 24 points, 8 assists and 7 boards. Diamond Miller added 20 points wth 5 boards and Katie Benzan scored 17 points.
  • The Terrapins are averaging 92.4 points per game through 18 games, which is leading the country. The NCAA D1 scoring record is 96.7 points per game by Providence in 1991. Maryland's team scoring record was 89.6 points per game by the 1977-78 team. No other team in program history averaged over 90 points per game.
  • As a team, Maryland is second in the NCAA in assist/turnover ratio (1.60), fourth in three-point field goal percentage (.405), fifth in free throw percentage (.805), No. 6 in field goal percentage (.484), No. 7 in assists (19.9) and eighth in scoring margin (+20.7). Katie Benzan is fourth in the country in three-point field goal percentage (.511) and Owusu is 15th in assists (5.7).
  • In the Feb. 15 NCAA Reveal, the Terps were the No. 7 overall seed and a No. 2 seed. The Terrapins have three wins over ranked teams this season - 115-96 over No. 14 Arkansas, 84-80 over No. 19 Indiana and 93-87 over No. 23 Michigan State. Maryland also has 6 Quad-1 wins, 2 Quad-2 wins and its only two losses are Quad-1 losses, both to teams in top 25 of NET & AP rankings.

  • The University of Maryland women's basketball program will celebrate its 50th varsity season in 2020-21, and will honor the program's rich tradition and history throughout the year. Maryland played its first full varsity season in 1971-72, under the leadership of pioneer Dottie McKnight. During its storied history, the program has won 1,045 games, amassed 44 winning seasons, won 22 conference championships, made 37 postseason appearances and captured the 2006 National Championship

  • Head coach Brenda Frese is in her 19th season in College Park. She's led the Terrapins to a record of 502-130 (.794), 12 conference titles, 15 NCAA Tournament appearances in 17 postseasons, three Final Fours, six Elite Eights, six Sweet Sixteens and the 2006 NCAA Championship. 
  • With the Terrapins' win at Nebraska on Feb. 14 Brenda Frese picked up win No. 500 at Maryland, which makes her the winningest coach in Maryland basketball history. Hall of Fame women's basketball head coach Chris Weller won 499 games in her 27 seasons (1975-02).

  • Maryland is one of the most consistent winning programs in the country. The Terrapins have been ranked in 208 straight Associated Press polls, dating back to the preseason poll of the 2010-11 season. That mark is behind just Baylor (333 weeks) and Connecticut (523 weeks).
  •  Maryland has been ranked for 259 weeks in the last 17 seasons, with 200 of those weeks in the AP top 10 and 90 in the AP top 5.

  • Maryland is 7-4 vs. Iowa all-time and 4-0 vs. the Hawkeyes at the XFINITY Center.
  • The two schools split the two meetings last year. Iowa won 66-61 in Iowa City on Jan. 9. Maryland bounced back to beat the Hawkeyes 93-59 in College Park on Feb. 13.
