Lindsey Spann Named WBCA 30 Under 30 Honoree

ATLANTA  –  Interim assistant coach Lindsey Spann of the Big Ten champion Maryland women's basketball team (24-2) was named one of the WBCA Thirty Under 30 presented by Morgan Stanley Global Sports & Entertainment honorees, the WBCA announced Wednesday.

Spann, who joined head coach Brenda Frese's staff as the Director of Recruiting Operations before the 2019-20 season, was tabbed as Interim Assistant Coach last spring.

In her two seasons in College Park, Spann has helped the Terrapins to a record of 52-6 (.897), the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles in both seasons.

Spann spent the 2018-19 season as a graduate assistant at South Carolina, where she finished her master's degree in sport and entertainment management. She played her senior season with the Gamecocks, where she averaged 10.3 points and shot over 45 percent from the field.

A graduate of Good Counsel, Spann played her first three seasons at Penn State where she earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors in 2016. She scored 1,000 points in her time at Penn State. She earned Academic All-Big Ten honors three times and earned her bachelor's degree in public relations in 2017.

The WBCA Thirty Under 30 program was created to recognize 30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches age 30 and under at all levels of the game. Each honoree has exemplified their involvement in community service, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner, and attitude and professional association involvement.

Maryland earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship in San Antonio, Texas.

The Terrapins, who are in the Hemisfair Region, will face 15th-seeded Mount St. Mary's (17-6) Monday at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN. The winner of Monday's game will advance to face the winner of a matchup between No. 7-seeded Alabama (16-9) and No. 10-seeded North Carolina (13-10).
