#1 Terps Claim Big Ten Title With 18-8 Win Over #12 Ohio State

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - #1 Maryland captured its fifth regular-season Big Ten Championship with an 18-8 win over #12 Ohio State on Sunday evening at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium. All-time leading goal scorer Jared Bernhardt led Maryland with a career-high tying six goals and added an assist for seven points. The Terps remain perfect on the season at 9-0. 

TITLE TOWN
- The Terps won their fifth Big Ten title, previously winning the crown in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. 
- Maryland has won the Big Ten regular-season title in five of the six seasons a trophy was handed out since joining the conference in 2014-15. Due to COVID-19, a championship was not awarded last season. 
- Overall, this is Maryland's 42nd conference regular-season or tournament championship, including 35 as members of the ACC. 

PERFECTION CONTINUES
- Maryland has won all nine games this season and all nine by at least four goals to stand at 9-0 with one regular-season game remaining, at rival Johns Hopkins last Saturday. 
- The last time Maryland started a season at 9-0 was in 1987, when the Terrapins started 12-0 before losing to Johns Hopkins in the NCAA Semifinals. 

BERNHARDT CONTINUES TO RACK UP GOALS
- Jared Bernhardt tied his career high with six goals scored, tying his previous mark set vs. Rutgers back on March 13, 2021.
- With his six goals, Bernhardt extends his all-time Maryland goals record to 170. 
- With his seven points, Bernhardt now has 248 in his career, as he closes in on Matt Rambo's career points record of 257. 
- Bernhardt scored three consecutive goals in the span of 2:13 as Maryland broke open a 4-3 lead to lead 8-3 at halftime and never looked back. 

GOALIE GOAL! 
- Goalie Logan McNaney scored his first career goal on a two man-down situation, 2:04 into the second half. 
- McNaney launched the ball about 60 yards into an open net with the Terps two men down. 
- It is believed to be the first Maryland goal scored by a goalie since Jim Beardmore scored against UMBC on May 4, 1985. 

MORE MALTZ
- Daniel Maltz tallied four goals and added an asisst for a five-point game. 
- It was his 10th career hat trick and 10th career multi-goal game. 

WIS-KING UP THE LISTS
- Logan Wisnauskas had a goal and two assists for three points, his 45th career multi-point game.
- With the goal, Wisnauskas is now tied for eighth in career goals with Pete Worstell (1977-81). 
- With three points, Wisnauskas passed legend Frank Urso for sixth in career points and now has 209. 

DEFENSE ROCKS AGAIN
- Maryland's defense continues to impress. McNaney recorded 12 saves, allowing just seven goals. 
- The Terps allowed just eight goals, marking the 30th consecutive win when allowing less than 10 goals. 
- All-American close defenseman candidates Nick Grill and Brett Makar each had four groundballs. Grill added two caused turnovers. 

LONG AND SHORT OF IT
- Kyle Long equaled his career-high with four assists. He also had four back on May 12, 2019 against Towson in the NCAA Tournament. 

BIG DAY FOR KORAS FAMILY
- Jack Koras his fourth goal of the season, when he scored with 2:05 left in the first half. 
- His brother Will Koras, a member of Maryland's golf team, recorded a hole-in-one in an event at Penn State on Sunday.

FIRSTS 
- In addition to McNaney scoring his first career goal, two other Terps marked for the first time by hitting the back of the cage. 
- Sophomore Jack Sawyer scored his first college goal with 3:07 left in the game. 
- Transfer Eric Holden, who scored 97 goals in career at Hobart, netted his first as a Terp with 1:21 left in the game, for the 18th and final goal for Maryland.  
- Sophomore Ryan Siracusa had his first college assist on Sawyer's goal. 

NEXT UP
- The Terps finish the regular-season at Johns Hopkins next Saturday at 2 p.m., in a game that will air on ESPNU.
