UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – The Maryland Terrapins found a lot of success in their 2022 indoor track and field season opener, as the squad traveled to University Park, PA to compete in the Nittany Lion Challenge. Several athletes set personal records and broke into the Maryland record books in their respective events. Complete results can be found here.
Women's Notes

Graduate Student Angel Nkwonta earned first place in the weight throw (21.02). She holds the program record in the event, which she set at last year's Penn State Invite. Nkwonta (15.88m) also placed fourth in the shot put.

Junior Kattiana Ealy-Pulido raced to a third place finish in the 60m hurdles. Her time of 8.53 is the eighth fastest time in program history.

Madison Depry took home second place in the high jump and set a new personal best in the event, clearing 1.74m (5'8.50").

Alice Barnsdale placed second in the weight throw with a new personal best mark of 19.15m. This throw earned the sixth highest mark in program history for the event.

Sarah George and Kamryn Henderson also competed in the shot put and weight throw for the Terps.

Senior Chelsey Cole (18'3.25") took home third place in the long jump.

Freshman Katie Altieri had a strong showing in the mile run, finishing with a time of 4:58.74. Katie Turk (5:10.29) and Amanda Eliker (5:13.14) also competed in the mile for the Terps.

Junior Ariana Ealy-Pulido competed for the Terps in the 60m hurdles finishing in the top ten.

Nyela Williams competed in the 300m for the Maryland squad (42.68)

Mackenzie Morgan (2:58.97) Sophia Zell (3:05.13) Allison Colflesh (3:06.24) and Kirstin Walz (3:08.99) all had strong performances in the women's 1K.

Kami Hickson had a strong performance in the 600m.

Kirstin Nichols (10:39.03) competed in the 3000m and set a new personal best.

The Terps Distance Medley Relay Team of Christine Laurie, Ariana Wright, Emma Pegg and Anna Coffin rounded out the meet with a second place finish, racing to a time of 12:04.26.
Men's Notes

Sophomore Kamari Trotz (6.81) set a new personal record, placing fourth in the 60m dash, moving him up to the second fastest time in program history

Junior Joseph Ewan also set a personal record (6.85) moving him into the third fastest time in program history.

In his indoor debut, Tommy Adebayo raced to an 8.00s finish in the 60m hurdles, winning the event and earning the t-6th fastest time in school history.

Junior Caleb Dean set a personal record (7.84s) in the 60m hurdles qualifying round, and raced to a third place finish in the finals. He holds the second fastest time in Maryland history in the event.

Kaithon McDonald earned first place in the high jump, reaching 2.09m (6'10.25).

Jeff Kline (18.25m) earned a third place finish in the shot put and was the first collegiate place finisher.

In his collegiate debut, freshman Eric Albright (1:54.19) raced to a second place finish in the 800m. Peter Capozzoli (2:00.58) also competed in the event.
Coach's Comments
"Our goal today was to establish a strong starting point for the indoor season. Beginning the season with several personal best performances shows that we have a lot more in the tank. I'm looking forward to seeing this group continue to push each other and step up as the season progresses."
