DETROIT, MI - The Maryland wrestling team wrapped up the first day of the 2022 NCAA Championships with both Kyle Cochran and Jaron Smith still in contention heading into Friday's sessions.
Cochran earned the first Terps' win on the day with a 7-3 victory of John Poznanski of Rutgers, the third time he's defeated the Scarlet Knight this season. Smith then closed out the day with a thrilling 16-4 major decision over Utah Valley's Evan Bockman. The Terps finish the day tied at 44th with Navy and South Dakota State with 2.5 team points.
Tomorrow Cochran will resume action against Purdue's Max Lyon. Smith will be wrestling Iowa State's Yonger Bastida.
