COLLEGE PARK, MD - The No. 8 Maryland women's lacrosse team is back on the road for the first time in over three weeks as they head to The District to face Georgetown. The game is set for a 7:00 p.m. opening draw and will air on the Big East Digital Network.

  • The Terps are 8-1 so far in 2022, and coming off a 3-1 homestand, defeating Villanova, No. 12 Rutgers and Penn.
  • Aurora Cordingley and Hannah Leubecker have combined for 44 points (27 goals, 17 assists) over the last four games.
  • Abby Bosco, who leads the Big Ten in groundballs, stood atop the team with 17 groundballs and seven caused turnovers during the homestand.
  • Maryland has three top-15 wins through seven games, beating No. 12 Rutgers, 16-6 behind a strong defensive effort, No. 7 Florida, 18-8, behind 10-points by Aurora Cordingley, and winning at No. 10 Virginia, 17-13, outscoring the Cavaliers 8-0 in the third quarter after a three-goal halftime deficit.

  • Fifth-year transfer Aurora Cordingley is off to a record-breaking start as a Terp, currently leading the nation points per game (6.67 per game).
  • She also stands third in the nation in assists per game (3.00) and 17th in goals per game (3.67).
  • At her current pace, With 27 assists through nine games, Cordingley is on track to break Maryland's single season assists record (Jen Adams, 60, 2001).
  • The Canadian National Team member has at least five points in eight of nine games, has at least six points in six of the last eight games and is the first Terp with two double-digit point games in a season since Alex Aust in 2013, tallying 11 (six goals, five assists) against Villanova (3/13) and 10 (four goals, six assists) against No. 7 Florida (2/26).
  • Cordingley has been named the IWLCA National Offensive Player twice this season (March 1 & March 15), the first Terp to win two national weekly awards since Tewaaraton winner Megan Taylor in 2019 and has won four of five Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors, the most by a Terp in a single season since Taylor Cummings in 2015.

TEWAARATON TERPS 
  • A trio of fifth-years: Abby Bosco, Aurora Cordingley and Grace Griffin, and junior Hannah Leubecker were all named to the Tewaaraton Watch List last week, which features the top 51 players in the sport of women's lacrosse.
  • This is the third-straight year that Griffin has been named to the watch list and last year was one of the final 25 nominees for the most prestigious award in lacrosse. Leubecker and Cordingley (Johns Hopkins) were also on the watch list last season. This is Bosco's (Penn) first ever watch list selection. 
  • Maryland has won eight of the last 11 Tewaaraton awards, with Megan Taylor becoming the first goalie in lacrosse history to win the award in 2019.
  • The Terps have had a finalist for the award in 14 straight seasons in which the Tewaaraton has been been awarded and every season under head coach Cathy Reese. Last season, Lizzie Colson earned finalist honors after a season in which she was named the IWLCA National Defender of the Year.

  • Goalie Emily Sterling has been a brick wall in net this season, currently standing third in the country in goals against average (8.18) and eighth in the country in save percentage (.517).
  • Over the last six games, Sterling is saving 57-percent of shots, tallying 50 saves to only 38 goals allowed, a 7.46 goals against average.

  • The Terps are top-10 in the nation in both scoring offense (16.33 goals per game) and scoring defense (8.11 goals per game), one of only three teams in the country top-10 in both scoring offense and defense (Duke & North Carolina).
  • Maryland is outscoring opponents by an average of 8.22 goals per game, the fourth-highest margin in the nation and highest in the Big Ten. The Terps have won six games by double digits.
  • Maryland currently leads the Big Ten and stands top-15 in the country in six major statistical categories: turnovers per game (10.67), scoring margin (8.22), points per game (24.00), scoring offense (16.33), groundballs per game (19.78) and caused turnovers per game (10.11)

  • The Terps lead the all-time series against Georgetown, 22-4 and has won 11 straight against the Hoyas, winning every time against them under head coach Cathy Reese.
  • The last time the Terps and Hoyas played in 2019, Maryland outscored Georgetown 13-0 in the second half to storm back from an 8-4 halftime deficit and defeat the Hoyas, 17-8. Jen Giles had seven points (five goals, two assists) to lead the Terps.
