Terps Climb the Record Boards at the Hokie Invitational

BLACKSBURG, VA – The Maryland Track and Field squads competed on the first day of competition in Blacksburg. 

 

The Terps were led by Kayla Woods who won the long jump and Chase McGeehan who recorded the second fastest time in Terps history in the 600m. Several Terps climbed the indoor record boards in their respective events along with a number of top finishes.

Women's Notes:

 
  • Anna Coffin (4:50.92) set a personal best for the second week in a row in the mile, earning the eighth fastest time in Terps history. Katie Altieri (5:03.34) also competed in the mile. Katie Turk (5:08.67) and Amanda Eliker (5:10.16) set season bests in the event. Sophia Zell also competed in the event. 

  • Kayla Woods (6.18m- 20'3.50") was victorious in the long jump for the second straight week. Her jump also recorded as the fifth furthest mark in program history.

  • Maya Mosley sprinted to a 40.59s finish in the 300m - the ninth fastest time in Maryland history.

  • Michaela Bracken's combined 3482 score in the pentathlon recorded as the tenth best score in Terps history. She sprinted to a 9.48s finish in the 60m hurdles, cleared 1.62m in the high jump, threw 9.25m in the shot put, jumped 5.22m in the long jump and raced to a 2:20.93 finish in the 800m.

  • Madison Depry set a personal best time of 7.78s in the 60m dash. Kattiana Ealy-Pulido (7.78s) and Ashley Thomas (8.06s) had great performances representing the Maryland squad.

  • Kamryn Henderson took seventh in the weight throw (16.85m). Sarah George (16.54m) also competed.

  • Alyssa Miller (8.96s) competed in the 60m hurdles.

  • Mackenzie Morgan raced to a 1:36.97 finish in the 600m. Ariana Wright also competed in the event.

  • Emmi Simon (3:01.91) and Samantha Facius competed in the 1000m.

 

Men's Notes:

 
  • Chase McGeehan (1:18.71) set an indoor personal best, with the second fastest time in Terps history. His time also earned a second place result in the event.

  • Eric Albright (2:26.82) raced to the fifth fastest time in Terrapins history in the 1000m.

  • Brandon Turpin (8.31s) qualified for the finals of the 60m hurdles, finishing in 8.29s in the finals. Drake Murphy (8.34s) set a personal best in the event as well. 

  • Ako Hislop (6.76s) took fourth place in the 60m dash finals which is the third best time in program history. Kamari Trotz (6.90) had a season best performance in prelims, and Kevin Collins (6.95s) equalled his personal best in the event. 

  • Luke Tobia (19.20m) took sixth in the weight throw. Andrew Harmon (15.73m) also competed in the event. 

  • Tyler Baruch competed in the long jump.

 

Coaches Comments:

"Today we came to compete and I'm proud of how the group is showing up early in the season. This is good momentum for our second day of competition."

The Terps will be back in action tomorrow for meet day two from Blacksburg, VA.
