Bri McDaniel of No. 8 Maryland (21-5, 12-3 B1G) was named Freshman of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers' Association Tuesday.

McDaniel, a 5-10 guard from Chicago, Ill., averaged 11.0 points, three steals, and 2.5 rebounds, in wins in the Big Ten over Northwestern and Illinois. In the matchup at Northwestern in front of her hometown crowd, she was 5-of-9 from the field, including 4-of-6 from deep and finished with a career-high 14 points. She added a career-best 4 steals as well in the victory.

In a come-from-behind victory over Illinois Sunday, she was 2-for-4 from the field, and a perfect 4-for-4 from the line for 8 points with 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 boards.

McDaniel and Maryland will play at Michigan State (13-12, 5-9) Saturday at 3 p.m. ET in East Lansing, Mich. The Terps-Spartans matchup will be streamed on
