COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Two Terps earned Big Ten weekly honors on Tuesday as
Daniel Kelly was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week while
Dante Trader Jr. was selected as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.
Kelly totaled a career-high six points (4G, 2A) to lead the way in No. 4 Maryland's 15-12 victory over No. 16 Syracuse on Saturday. He also notched five groundballs. He has now scored four goals in two consecutive games and has notched at least two points in all three games this season.
Dante Trader Jr., who starred for Maryland football this past fall, scored his first two collegiate goals for the Terps, including an amazing individual effort in the fourth quarter where he maintained the ball after being knocked down, drawing a penalty; he then ran down from midfield and scored. Trader also had three groundballs and caused a turnover as he played a key role as a SSM in limiting the Syracuse offensive attack.
The weekly honors are firsts for both guys.
Maryland now was four total winners this year, with
Brett Makar and
Braden Erksa both earning Big Ten weekly awards after the first week of action.
Maryland is back in action on Saturday when it faces Princeton in New Jersey at 1 pm.
