COLLEGE PARK, MD -- A pair of Terps, midfielder
Kori Edmondson and goalkeeper
Emily Sterling, were named Big Ten Players of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Edmondson, the No. 1 freshman in the country, was named both the Big Ten Midfielder and Freshman of the Week. Sterling, the Preseason National Goalie of the Year, was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the sixth time in her career, as well as the Solomon Eye Terp of the Week.
Edmondson led the offense to help Maryland get two wins over Georgetown & No. 22 Rutgers, tallying eight points (six goals, two assists), one groundball and one caused turnover. The freshman had three goals and an assist in each game to help pace a Maryland offense that scored 29 goals on the week. These are the first honors of Edmondson's career. She is the third Terp to be named Big Ten Midfielder of the Week this season (
Shaylan Ahearn, 3/14 & 2/28) and the first to be named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. The last Terp to earn Freshman of the Week honors is
