COLLEGE PARK, MD - No. 10 Maryland will get back to conference play as the Terps play their first of three games in seven days against No. 15 Michigan. The game is set for a 12:00 p.m. opening draw and will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network with Mark Dixon and Taylor Cummings on the call. 

The program will celebrate the 50th season of Maryland women's lacrosse during this game. Over 100 alumni will be in attendance and the Terps will celebrate their 15 national championships with an on field ceremony at halftime.


Where we are
  • The Terps have won six games in a row, outscoring its opponents 97-45 over that stretch. Maryland has scored over 13 goals in every game of their win streak and has held each opponent to less than 12 goals.
  • Junior Eloise Clevenger has 20 points over the last three games (eight goals, 12 assists) to lead Maryland to three ranked wins over #22 Rutgers, #24 Penn and #17 Princeton. Against Rutgers, Clevenger set a career-high with eight points (three goals, five assists) to pace the Maryland offense. Clevenger currently leads the Terps with 45 points (16 goals, 29 assists) and stands seventh in the nation in assists.
  • Freshman Kori Edmondson has also been fantastic during the Maryland winning streak, leading the Terps with 19 goals and standing second with 22 points. The No. 1 freshman in the nation had a hat-trick in six straight games over the span of March 5 vs. #9 Denver to March 22 vs. #24 Penn. She was named the Big Ten Freshman and Midfielder of the Week after back-to-back four point games vs. Georgetown and #22 Rutgers.
  • Goalie Emily Sterling has also been tremendous during Maryland's four game winning streak, tallying 59 saves to only 44 goals allowed, a .567 save percentage. The senior has had 15 saves in each of the Terps last two home games, including a 15 saves to only four goals allowed performance against Georgetown, the best save percentage (.789) of her career, earning her Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors.

50th Season of maryland women's lacrosse
  • The 2023 season will be the 50th season of Maryland women's lacrosse, a program that has been the most successful in the entire sport since its start.
  • Maryland has won 15 national championships and 31 conference championships. The Terps have participated in 28 Final Fours, including 12 of the last 13 and have won 12 of the last 28 national championships, including seven-straight from 1995-2001. Maryland has an all-time program record of 768-153-3 through 49 seasons.

  • Emily Sterling returns as the National Goalkeeper of the Year to backline the Maryland defense in 2023. She finished the year second in the nation in both save percentage (.531) and goals against average (7.87) and had the highest save percentage ever in Big Ten play at .626.
  • Sterling has 44 saves to only 33 goals allowed over the last four games, a .594 save percentage and was the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on March 21. .

  • Maryland has been dominant on the draw circle through 12 games, standing with the fourth-best draw control percentage in the nation, winning 62.3-percent of all draw controls this season. The Terps have recorded 16.50 draw controls per game this season, the 13th-best mark in the nation. Shaylan Ahearn stands seventh in the country and leads the Big Ten with 84 draw controls.
  • In the Terps game against Drexel, Shaylan Ahearn became only the sixth Terp in program history to surpass the 200 career draw control mark with 14. In the Terps game against #24 Penn, Ahearn had the second best draw control mark of her career with 13 to move into fourth all-time in program history with 264, surpassing Karri Ellen Johnson (2008-12). Ahearn now has 266 career draw controls.
  • Ahearn tallied 115 draw controls last season, the eighth-most in a single season in program history.
  • Another Terp, Abby Bosco, also eclipsed the 200 draw control mark at Villanova and now has 220 in her career. 139 of those have come as a Terp, 81 at Penn, where she played from 2018-21.

  • Maryland is 164-6 at home under head coach Cathy Reese, with nine undefeated home campaigns in the last 11 seasons (2013, '14, '15, '16, '17, '18, '19, '21).
  • Last time the Terps played in SECU Stadium (2019), Maryland went 11-0, including wins over No. 3 North Carolina, No. 4 Syracuse, No. 7 Michigan and No. 8 Penn.
  • The Terps have never lost a conference home game under Reese, going undefeated in each of her 16 seasons.

  • Head Coach Cathy Reese enters her 17th season at the helm of Maryland women's lacrosse. The winningest coach in program history, Reese is 311-37 as head coach and has led the Terps to five National Championships, 12 Final Fours and 22 Conference Championships.
  • Maryland is 164 6 at home under Reese, with nine undefeated home campaigns in the last 11 seasons (2013, '14, '15, '16, '17, '18, '19, '21).

  • Maryland has never lost to Michigan, winning all nine all-time meetings. The Terps beat Michigan to secure the outright Big Ten Regular Season Championship. In 2021, Maryland defeated Michigan three times, including two in College Park.
  • Last season the Terps defeated Michigan 13-8 behind a career-best four goals and six points from Eloise Clevenger to lead the Maryland offense that also got four points from Libby May (two goals, two assists) and three points from Aurora Cordingley (two goals, one assist).
  • Emily Sterling was spectacular in cage, recording 12 saves to only eight goals allowed, a .600 save percentage,
  • In four games against Michigan in her career, Hannah Leubecker has scored 18 goals.
