Maryland Travels to Binghamton for Final Non-Conference Game of 2023

COLLEGE PARK, MD - Maryland hits the road after consecutive wins at Ludwig Field to get its first two wins of the season. The Terrapins are coming off a win against George Mason 2-0 where they dominated from the first minute. The Terps face Binghamton in their final non-conference game of the season before starting Big Ten play next week. The game will air on ESPN+.

The Terps will be looking for their third-straight win on the year. The Terps have not won three consecutive matches since the start of the 2021 season.

 
Series History - Binghamton
  • This will be the first meeting between the Terrapins and the Bearcats all-time.
  • Maryland has played in 14 matches against America East Conference opponents in its history, with an record of 12-2-0. The last time the Terps face an AEC opponent was back in 2019, when they went to double overtime thriller with NJIT that ended in a 1-0 victory for the Terps.
  • Hope Lewandowski scored the game-winning goal in the 104th minute of the game on an assist from Loren Sefcik. The Terps outshot NJIT 24-5 in the match and the win gave the Terps their second consecutive win to start the 2019 season.
Maryland plays NJIT on August 25, 2019.
Although Maryland has not face Binghamton in its program's history, they have faced American East opponents on 14 separate occasions. The last time they faced an AEC opponent was against NJIT in 2019, with Hope Lewandowski scoting the decisive goal in double overtime. In her career, Lewandowski scored six goals for the Terps, including three game-winners.
Last Time Out
  • The Terrapins got their second-straight win of the season against Binghamton on Thursday, Sept. 7. The scoring got started in the 37th minute when Catherine DeRosa fired a left-footed shot from outside the box the went in the top left corner of the goal. The goal was DeRosa's second of the season and fourth of her career. The Terrapins doubled their advantage in the second half on another left-footed longshot, this time from Ava Morales. The goal by Morales was her second in two games for Maryland. The win was the Terrapins' second straight home victory and their third-straight shutout on the season.
Locking Down Luddy
  • The last two matches for the Terrapins at home have been shutout wins. This is part of a three-game streak where the Terps have not allowed a goal.
  • In the Terrapins' 2-0 win over George Mason, they did not allow a single shot by the opposition in the match. This was the first time that the team had allowed zero shots in a match since they joined the Big Ten back in 2014.
  •  One this three-game run for the Terrapins, opposing teams have only had a total of 18 total shots and only six of those shots have been on target.
  • The back line of the defense has created chemistry that has made them an successful group. For goalkeeper Liz Beardsley, she has seen her GAA drop over these last three matches from 1.50 to 0.86 and stopped all six shot on goal she's faced.

Halle Johnson earned her second start of the season for the Terps against George Mason and helped lead the effort that kept the Patriots without getting a sinlge shot in the match.
Shooters Shoot
  • In the Terps 2-0 win on Thursday, they fired 28 shots in the game. This was the most shot the team had  in a game since they had 30 against Yale back on September 15, 2015.
  • Over their last three games, the Terps have outshot their opponents by a total of 58-18. As a team the Terps have a shot per game total of 14.29. 
Ava Morales Bags two goals in two games
Ava Morales has seen an uptick in her goals and shots over the last two matches. The sophomore has scored a gaol in back to back games and is tied for the team lead in goals this season.
Scouting the Bearcats
  • The Bearcats have a record of 1-3-2 on the season. The Bearcats last played against Wagner, with the game finishing in a 2-2 draw.
  • Lexi Vegoda leads the Bearcats in goals (two) and points (five) to start the season. Four players are tied with an assist, with Victoria McKnight leading the team with 15 shots this year.
  • In goal, Binghamton is led by Kaitlyn Williams. Williams comes into the matchup with 20 saves so far in 2023 and has a GAA of 1.52.
  • The composition of this squad creates a roster with a unique blend of youthful exuberance and veteran leadership.
