Box Score COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland softball took game one of its series against Illinois, 8-0, at Maryland Softball Stadium on Friday.
Courtney Wyche pitched her fourth shutout and 12th complete game of the season.
Maryland (17-17, 4-3 B1G) scored all of its runs through the first five innings and ended the game by run rule. Illinois (13-20, 0-6 B1G) was unable to get on the board and Wyche earned her 10th win of the season.
The fifth-year pitcher continued her recent dominance in the circle. Wyche struck out eight batters and allowed just one hit. She even struck out four consecutive batters through the first and second innings.
Delaney Reefe ended the game with an RBI single up the middle that scored Sammi Woods. Reefe went 2-for-3 in the game.
Michaela Jones hit an inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the second inning. It was her third home run of the season and she finished the game 2-for-2 and added a double. She also scored two runs. Maryland's last inside-the-park home run was hit by
Megan Mikami on May 1, 2022 against Michigan State.
Sydney Lewis went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a double.
Woods drove in two runs and and Mazie MacFarlane drove in the other run for the Terps.
