No. 7 Maryland Welcomes Wisconsin in Gold Out Monday

COLLEGE PARK, MD --  The 7th-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (13-0, 1-0 B1G) will host Wisconsin (9-3, 1-0) on Monday, Dec. 29 for a 4 p.m. matchup at the XFINITY Center. Monday's game is the Terps' Golden Girls Gold Out game. Fans are encouraged to wear gold and celebrate friendship, flair, and fierce competition, Maryland-style. XFINITY Center will shine bright as we turn back the clock with throwback tunes, themed graphics, and plenty of laughs from the Golden Girls of College Park. Whether you're Dorothy, Blanche, Rose, or Sophia, there's a little golden spirit in everyone. For tickets, click here.

The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a Golden Girls Gold Out t-shirt and a gold feather boa. Fans are encouraged to wear their best night gown and come dressed as one of the Golden Girls. The Winner gets a custom Maryland Night gown.

What's UP
  • The Terrapins are coming off of a 98-30 win over Central Connecticut State on Dec. 19 in College Park. Yarden Garzon his 7 threes to lead Maryland with 25 points. Oluchi Okananwa picked up her first double-double as a Terp with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

  • Yarden Garzon was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Dec. 22 for her second career weekly honor.
  • Maryland is ranked No. 7 in the Associated Press poll released Dec. 22 and No. 6 in the USA Today Sports WBB Coaches Poll released Dec. 23.

  • The Terps were picked to finish second in the Big Ten, behind just UCLA. USC, Michigan and Ohio State rounded out the predicted top five. 
  • Seniors Yarden Garzon and Kaylene Smikle were named to the 10-player All-Big Ten Preseason Team by both the league's head coaches and media panel. 

  • Head coach Brenda Frese and her staff signed two transfers in All-Big Ten honoree Yarden Garzon (Indiana) and 2025 ACC Tournament Most Outstanding Player Oluchi Okananwa (Duke). The Terrapins also welcome freshmen Lea Bartelme, Addi Mack, Rainey Welson, Nicole Fritea and Marya Boiko to the roster.
  • Maryland will play six teams ranked in the AP preseason poll - No. 3 UCLA, No. 13 Michigan, No. 18 USC, No. 21 Iowa, No. 23 Michigan State and No. 24 Kentucky. The Terps will also play six teams receiving votes in Washington, Ohio State, Princeton, Minnesota, Illinois and Nebraska.
  • Maryland women's basketball is its 55th season and owns a record of 1,163-472 (.711). The Terrapins are No. 11 all-time in NCAA Division I history in winning percentage and No. 9 in all-time victories.

  • The Terps are 224-70 (.762) all-time against their Big Ten opponents.
  • Since joining the Big Ten in 2014-15, the Terrapins are 182-40 (.820) vs. their conference opponents, including their 22-6 record in the Big Ten Tournament.

  • In the 24 years under Frese, the Terps are 193-44 (.814) against their Big Ten opponents.
  • Frese is 207-49 (.809) all-time vs. Big Ten opponents, which includes her time at Minnesota and at Ball State. 
  • Since joining the league in 2014, Maryland is 83-13 (.865) against Big Ten teams at home.
  • Since their first year in the Big Ten, the Terps are 137-6 (.958) when holding their league opponents to 70 points or less. The Terrapins are also 162-18 (.900) when they score 70 points or more.

  • Head coach Brenda Frese is in her 24th season in College Park. She's led the Terrapins to a record of 620-169 (.786), 14 conference titles, 21 NCAA Tournament bids in 23 postseasons, three Final Fours, seven Elite Eights, 12 Sweet Sixteens and the 2006 NCAA Championship. 
  • Frese owns a career record of 677-199 (.773) over her 27 years as a head coach.
  • Frese was named National Coach of the Year by the AP, The Athletic and ESPN at the end of the 2020-21 season. In October 2021, Frese was the first woman inducted into the Washington DC Metro Basketball Hall of Fame.
  • With the Terrapins' win at Nebraska on Feb. 14, 2021, Frese picked up win No. 500 at Maryland, which makes her the winningest coach in Maryland basketball history. Hall of Fame women's basketball head coach Chris Weller won 499 games in her 27 seasons (1975-02).
