COLLEGE PARK, Md.- The University of Maryland men's tennis team (4-11, 0-8 ACC) will travel down to Orlando, Fla. to participate in the 2001 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships at the Lake Cane-Marsha Park & Tennis Center April 19-22. The Terps enter the tournament as the #9 seed which pairs them up with top-seeded and No. 3 ranked Duke. Should the men advance, they will face the winner of No. 5 seed Florida State and No. 4 seed Wake Forest on Saturday in the semifinal round of the tournament. Earlier this year, Maryland fell to the Blue Devils 7-0 down in Durham, NC. The Terps are seeking their third ACC Championship title.

Maryland In The ACC Championships

The Terrapins have captured the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship title twice, taking the crown in 1957 and 1964. Maryland has finished runner-up a total of six times.

A Look At Duke

The Duke Blue Devils come into the ACC tournament with an 18-3 record overall, including a perfect conference mark of 8-0 earning them the ACC regular season title. Winners of their last 10 matches, Duke is currently ranked fifth nationally and has locked up the top seed in this weekend's tournament. They are seeking their fourth straight league title in the tournament. Four of Duke's top six singles players are ranked nationally and present a big threat to Maryland. They are led by freshman Phillip King who posses a 17-5 record on the year, meriting him a No. 16 ranking. Senior Ramsey Smith, ranked 16th nationally, holds down the No. 2 spot with 25-9 record on the year and a 112-35 record in his career at Duke, putting him in a tie for first place on the Blue Devil's all-time victories chart.
