Mark Fothergill started 23 of 30 games for the Terps as a junior. Some of his finest moments over the last two years came when he was playing against Ralph Sampson and the Virginia Cavaliers. He averaged 23 minutes a game last year as he played both forward and center. He was one of five Terps who played in all 30 games. He had a career high of 14 points against Canisius and again against U.C.L.A. He earned a career high 1 1 rebounds against William & Mary and then topped that with 12 against Clemson. He later scored 13 points against Clemson after getting 1 1 the first time. He had 17 points and nine rebounds in the two games against Virginia last year. He did not play in 1980-81 due to a broken left hand suffered in the Red-White pre-season scrimmage. He started 1 3 games as a sophomore and played 43 minutes as the Terps upset Virginia (ranked #1)47-46 in overtime. He hit 19 of his last 29 field goal attempts as a sophomore and 68 of 122 as a junior. His .557 field goal percentage last year was second only to Ben Coleman for the Terps. Second leading free throw shooter on the team for those with over 50 attempts as he hit 50 of 66 for .758 percentage. He hit on 25 of 31 as a sophomore for .807 percentage. Joined the Terps from Somerset High School in Kentucky where he was a three year starter and captained the team his senior year. Played on two district championship teams and a regional champion while leading Somerset to a three year record of 58-26. Also a first baseman in baseball in high school. He enjoys Country Music.
