Pete Holbert played in 29 games as a sophomore and 20 as a junior. He is recognized as one of the best pure shooters in the league. He is usually around when the opponents are in a tight zone or in the closing minutes when a long shot is needed. He only scored 33 points last year after 154 as a sophomore. His career high of 18 points came in Littlejohn Coliseum against Clemson in 27 minutes during his sophomore year. He had 16 points against Hofstra as a sophomore and pulled down his high of five rebounds while scoring 1 3 against Canisius. In the opening round of the NIT at Richmond he scored 10 points in 1 3 minutes as a sophomore. Last year he had a high of nine points against Penn State in the season opener and later scored eight against Navy. He hit 19 of 23 free throws for .826 percent, the best on the team. He made two three point field goals in seven attempts last year. While at W. T. Woodson High School he was accorded Ail-American honors. He captained the basketball team to the district title while playing both guard and forward. He has one older brother and a younger sister. His father Jim Holbert is a pilot for United Airlines.
