All-America candidate Ben Coleman "Lefty's Horse" is the power type center the Terps excel with. He had a fine first year with Maryland after transferring from Minnesota, averaging 1 5. 1 points a game and 8. 1 rebounds. He hit 57 percent from the field and fouled out of only eight games after having early season foul trouble. Ben recorded 33 blocked shots, 32 assists and 19 steals while dominating the inside for Maryland. He had 20 points in his second game with the Terps while pulling in 12 rebounds and then had his career high of 27 against UCLA as he hit 1 1 of 12 shots in the 80-79 overtime win. He also had 12 rebounds against UCLA and North Carolina, pulled in 14 against Duke, and 13 against Wake Forest. He scored in double figures in 24 of his 30 games and rebounded in double figures in nine. He was the ninth leading scorer in the ACC, ranked second to Ralph Sampson in field goal percentage and fourth in rebounding. He was seventh in the voting for the All-ACC team. He played in 23 games at Minnesota, averaging 1 3 minutes a game and averaging 8.4 points a game and 5.1 rebounds. He averaged over 33 minutes a game for the Terps while playing in all 30 games. His high game at Minnesota was also 27 points. He went to Minnesota from North Community High in Minneapolis where he was the MVP. He has three brothers and a sister.
