WOMEN'S MEET NOTES

Maryland opens up the 1998 season today after finishing 8-2 in dual meet competition last season ... Johns Hopkins opens up its 1998 campaign after finishing 8-3 in dual meet action a year ago ... senior Kim Piotro of Maryland is the defending ACC champion in the 200-yard freestyle and holds the women's school record in both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle (50.30 and 1:48.45 respectively) ... sophomore Katy Novotny holds the women's school record in the 50-yard freestyle (23.54), 100-yard backstroke (56.01) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.20) ... last season, the Maryland women's team recorded their highest place finish ever at the ACC Championships as they took fourth place.

MEN'S MEET NOTES

Maryland opens up the 1998 season today after finishing 8-2 in dual meet competition a year ago ... Johns Hopkins opens the 1998 campaign having finished 8-3 in dual meet action last season ... sophomore Kevin Burke of Maryland is the defending ACC champion in both the one- and three-meter diving events ... Burke was also named the ACC Diver of the Year last season as well as an honorable mention All-American ... sophomore Aaron Peterson of Maryland led the men's team in point scoring last season (257.05 points) and holds the men's school record in the 100-yard butterfly (48.45) ... Maryland junior Jason Ward, who placed among the top eight in the ACC in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke last season, was named an Academic All-American.
