PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Sophomore Laura Moon (Scottsdale, Ariz.) placed first and earned a personal season high and career high in the all around with a 39.400 as the No. 20 Maryland women's gymnastics team defeated Temple 195.000-186.300. The Terps' team score is the third highest this season and the eighth highest in school history. Maryland gymnasts placed first in every event.
Moon placed first on beam with a 9.875 and first on uneven bars with a 9.900, personal season and career highs on bars. She also tied with sophomore Gillian Cote (Fredericksburg, Va.) for first place on vault scoring 9.800. Moon's all around score of 39.400 matches the second highest all around score in school history.
Junior Jill Fisher (Huntington, N.Y.) had another spectacular evening on floor, winning the event with a 9.950. Tonight marks the sixth straight meet in which Fisher scored above a 9.900 in the floor exercise. Fisher is currently ranked No. 12 in the nation for floor.
Cote also scored high for Maryland, earning second place on bars with a 9.850 before placing second in the all around with a 39.325. So far this season Cote won five straight all around titles. Cote, Moon and Fisher earned the top three places in every event except bars.
The Terps are now 9-6 overall and 4-1 in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL). Maryland will be in action once again on Saturday, Feb. 26 when they travel to Ann Arbor to take on assistant coach Wendy Marshall's alma mater, the University of Michigan. The meet will be in Cliff Keen Arena at 4 p.m.
