Moon Sets School All-Around Record In Maryland Win

COLLEGE PARK, Md.

- Sophomore Laura Moon (Scottsdale, Ariz.) earned a school record-breaking 39.500 in the all-around as the No. 20 Maryland women's gymnastics team defeated James Madison and Western Michigan with a team score of 195.050. Western Michigan came in second with a 193.625 and James Madison wrapped up third with a 190.300.

Maryland had an outstanding evening with three individuals earning scores of 9.900 or above. Junior Jill Fisher (Huntington, N.Y.) earned her eighth consecutive floor exercise score at 9.900 or higher with a 9.95. Fisher is currently ranked No. 1 on the nation in the floor exercise. Also scoring high was sophomore Gillian Cote (Fredericksburg, Va.) who earned second place on beam with a 9.900. Moon also performed well on beam, taking first place with a 9.925.

Moon had a night filled with career highs, breaking personal records in beam and floor as well as the all-around. Her first place beam score of 9.925 matches Cote's team season high. Moon's floor score of 9.900 gave her second in that event.

The Terps took first, second and third place in every event except floor. Finishing behind Fisher in floor were Western Michigan's Andrea Ruhe in second with a 9.850 and Jennifer Gleissner in third with a 9.825.

Several Terrapins earned season highs in tonight's win. Cote earned a 9.850 in vault, matching Moon for the team season high. Senior co-captain Christine Holcombe (McMurray, Pa.) matched her season high in bars with a 9.775 and earned a season high in floor with a 9.825. Sophomore twins Alyssa and Lisa Mealey (Bensalem, Pa.) both earned career highs in floor with a 9.825 and a 9.8 respectively. Moon earned a season high in beam with a 9.925 as well as in floor with a 9.900.

At 11-7, Maryland will close its season against Temple on Friday, March 10. The meet will be in Ritchie Coliseum and is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
