CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- Virginia RHP Dan Street tossed a four-hit complete game as the Cavaliers defeated Maryland, 6-1, Friday afternoon in Charlottesville. Street (3-4) threw a gem as he struck out three in his fourth complete game of the year.

The Cavaliers broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with one run. Shortstop Hunter Wyant came through with a RBI single to right to give Virginia a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Virginia scored two more runs to widen its lead to 3-0. Second baseman Shawn McCleary's RBI triple drove in LF David Stone for the first run in the fifth. Wyant then drove in his second run of the game with a sacrifice fly to score McCleary and put Virginia ahead 3-0.

The Terrapins answered with one run in the top of the sixth to pull back within two at 3-1. Third baseman Steve Oursler (Clinton, Md.) hit a single to center to score LF Brian Patenaude (Marietta, Ga.) to put the Terrapins on the board.

An infield RBI single by 1B Robert Word in the bottom of the sixth extended the Virginia lead to 4-1.

The Cavaliers scored two insurance runs in the bottom half of the eighth to close out the scoring.

Maryland starting pitcher Jared Stuart (Corning, N.Y.) pitched well in a losing effort. Stuart (2-5) tossed seven innings and fanned a career-high seven for the Terps.

On a bright note for the Terrapins, Kevin McDonald (Rockaway, N.J.) returned the lineup after missing eight games with a broken orbital bone. McDonald finished the game 1-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to six games.

Both teams will continue the series tomorrow at noon at the UVa Baseball Field.
