Box Score
RICHMOND, Va.- Richmond starter Tim Stauffer tossed eight innings and fanned eight as the Spiders defeated Maryland, 9-3, Friday afternoon at Pitt Field. Stauffer yielded just three runs on five hits to improve to 7-5 on the year.
The Spiders got on the scoreboard first with a run in the second inning. Designated hitter Manny Cicchiello led off the inning with a single to right and advanced to second on a fielding error by Matt Swope. Richmond shortstop Bobby LeNoir then drove him in with a RBI single to center to give Richmond a 1-0 lead.

The Terps loaded the bases in the fifth with just one out, but could only manage one run. A bases loaded walk to Swope forced in designated hitter Kevin McDonald to cut the Richmond lead to 4-1.
In the sixth, two Richmond errors led to two Maryland runs to pull the Terps to within one at 4-3. McDonald drove in a run with a RBI groundout and first baseman Ray Gemmill reached on an error to score John McCurdy to score the Terrrapins' second run of the frame.
Richmond answered right back with three runs in the home half of the sixth. After a sacrifice fly by catcher Adam Tidball, Vito Chiaravalloti lined a two-run single to center to put Richmond up 7-3.
The Spiders tacked on solo home runs in the seventh and eighth innings to make the final score 9-3.
