John McCurdy Cited As The Atlantic Coast Conference's Baseball Player Of The Week

GREENSBORO, N.C.Maryland's John McCurdy (Crofton, Md.) earns this week's Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week honor after leading the Terrapins to a 6-0 record last week with wins over UMES (2), Towson and Vermont (3).

McCurdy, a junior shortstop, led Maryland with a .563 average (13-for-23), six home runs, three doubles and 15 RBIs. With the six wins, the Terps have won 11 straight, tying a school record.

McCurdy hit safely in five of the six games, including multiple hits in four of the six contests. He also recorded three stolen bases and scored 13 runs.

He also leads the ACC for the year in home runs (9), batting average (.556), RBIs (34) and total bases (72). McCurdy is also in the top five in the conference in stolen bases (8, third) and hits (35, third).

McCurdy is the first Maryland player to be named the ACC Player of the Week since Craig Munroe won the award for the week of April 24, 2000.
