BOWIE, Md. - The University of Maryland baseball team defeated the University of Hartford this afternoon by a score of 7-2. This victory marks the Terps' sixth win in their last seven games.

Anthony Buffone made his mark in the Terrapin record books today, hitting his 47th career double which ties him for the all-time lead in school history along with Matt Swope, Brian Patenaude and Chuck Easter for doubles in a career. Buffone went 2-for-5 on the day with three RBI.

Chris Clem had an impressive start for the Terps (6-7), not allowing a run in six innings of work and surrendering only four hits. Clem struck out seven batters while issuing just two walks to Hartford (2-2).

The Terrapins had 11 hits against the Hawks, marking the fourth straight game that they have recorded 10 or more hits. They put the bats to work early in this game, knocking in three runs in the first inning.

Brian Jarosinski started the Terps off by hitting an RBI single with the bases loaded in the first. Jason Maxey and Dan Melvin followed that hit up with back-to-back sacrifice flies, scoring two more.

Maryland expanded its lead in the fourth inning, with Matt Maropis knocking in a run with a sacrifice fly. Buffone then came up and hit his historic double, knocking in Elliot Singletary and Bobby Ryan.

The Terrapins tacked on another run in the eighth, when Buffone knocked in Mike Costantino on a fielder's choice.

Casey Baron came out of the bullpen in the seventh inning and pitched two innings of relief for Maryland. In the ninth, the Terps called upon Seth Overbey to secure the win. Overbey came in and struck out each of the three batters he faced for a career-high in strikeouts.

The Terrapins will be host the University of Hartford again on Sunday, March 14, at 1 p.m., at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, Md.
