BOWIE, Md. - The University of Maryland baseball team dropped Sunday's game to the University of Virginia at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, Md., by a score of 2-1 in extra innings. In the loss, senior Anthony Buffone became Maryland's all-time leader with 765 career at bats.

The extra-inning game featured a classic pitching duel between junior Kevin Hart, for the Terrapins (16-21, 2-13 ACC), and Joe Koshansky for the Cavaliers (32-7, 14-4 ACC). Hart struck out eight batters with one walk and only one run surrendered on five hits in his 8.1 innings of work. Koshansky struck out nine with one earned run in nine innings pitched.

The Terrapins got on the board right away, with sophomore Brian Jarosinski hitting a solo shot to left center in the first inning. The home run was Jarosinski's 14th of the season and second in the Virginia series.

Maryland carried that 1-0 lead into the ninth inning when the Cavaliers rallied back to tie the game, sending it into extra innings. In the top of the 11th Virginia scored what proved to be the game-winning run on Tim Henry's single which scored Tom Hagan.

Buffone was the only Terrapin with multiple hits in the game, picking up three in his five at bats. Sophomore Ben Pfinsgraff came out of the bullpen in the ninth inning to relieve Hart. Pfinsgraff allowed one earned run on three hits with two strikeouts in 2.2 innings of work.

Maryland will be in action next when they play host to Towson University on Tuesday, April 20, at 7 p.m. The game is tentatively scheduled to be played at Shipley Field in College Park.
