FREDERICK, Md. - The University of Maryland baseball team dropped its first game of a three-game series to North Carolina State University Friday at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick, Md., by a score of 6-3.

The Terrapins (16-16, 2-8 ACC) were unable to match the offensive production of NC State (22-10, 5-5 ACC). Maryland put up eight hits in the game, led by senior Anthony Buffone's three-hit performance.

NC State built up an early 3-0 lead before the Terps got on the board with one run in the fifth inning. Junior Will Frazier led off the inning with a double to left field and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He came around to score when junior Truan Mehl singled to right field later in the inning.

The Terps scored another run in the eighth inning when Buffone knocked in Mehl with a double to right center. Mehl had walked to lead off the inning.

Maryland scored its final run of the game when junior Jason Maxey hit his second home run of the season, a solo shot to left center.

Starting on the mound for the Terps, junior Chris Clem pitched eight innings, striking out six batters and issuing one walk. Freshman Dan Waters came out of the bullpen to pitch a scoreless inning of relief in the ninth. Michael Rogers picked up his sixth win of the season for the Wolfpack.

Maryland will meet up with the Wolfpack again on Saturday at Harry Grove Stadium at 7 p.m., for the second game of the three-game set.
