Maryland Track And Field Has Solid Showing At Patriot, Delaware Invites

FAIRFAX, Va. and NEWARK, Del. - Labelle Hillgrove won the women's discus throw and shot put and the University of Maryland track and field teams had multiple solid performances Saturday at the Patriot and Delaware Invitationals.

Hillgrove led the Terrapin women at the Patriot Invitational, held on the campus of George Mason University. She was a winner in the discus (144-10) and shot put (44-3.50).

Danielle Siebert was also a first-place finisher for the Terps in the 1,500-meter run (4:31.92). Also finishing well was Heather Houston (second, long jump, 19-6.75), Zhanna Barer (third, pole vault, 11-5.75), Bria Johnson (third, discus, 135-7) and Jasmine Artis (second, triple jump, 36-2.25).

At the Delaware Invitational, Laurel Jefferson came away with a victory in the 5,000-meter run (18:36.11).

On the men's side, Adam Ambrus brought home a victory at the Delaware Invitational in the 5,000-meter run (15:29.32).

At the Patriot Invitational for the men, Brian Grubel, Jamaal Freeman and Mike Fleg were the top individual finishers of the day. Grubel was second in the pole vault (14-5.25), Fleg was a runner-up in the 1,500-meter run (3:58.20) and Freeman finished second in the triple jump (45-7.25).

Beau Fay garnered third-place honors in the hammer throw (178-7), and the 4x400 relay team of Chris Ader, Adam Durham, Robert Duru and Paul Dorsey) was third with a time of 3:24.17.
