COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland baseball team fell to Towson University on Tuesday at John B. Schuerholz Stadium in Towson, Md., by a score of 7-4.

Maryland (19-26) fell to the Tigers (16-27) despite out-hitting them, 9-7. Junior Kevin Hart started on the mound for the Terps, striking out four batters and allowing one run on one hit in three innings of work.

The Terrapins tied the game up at 1-1 in the fourth inning. Sophomore Matt Maropis walked to lead off the inning, and scored later in the inning. Junior Jason Maxey recorded the RBI when he grounded out to second.

Towson took a 7-1 lead into the seventh inning, but the Terps cut that deficit by one when junior Elliot Singletary knocked in Mehl with an RBI single up the middle. Mehl led off the inning with a single to center field.

Maryland scored two additional runs in the eighth inning, both coming after the Terps recorded two outs. Sophomore Brian Jarosinski started the two-out rally with a single through the left side. After Mehl reached on a walk, freshman Dan Melvin brought in Jarosinski with a single to left. Singletary repeated that performance with an RBI single of his own to score Mehl in the Terps' next at bat.

Junior Josh Andrews came out of the bullpen to pitch the seventh inning, not allowing a run on one hit. Freshman Casey Baron pitched a perfect inning of relief, striking out one batter in the eighth.

Junior Bobby Ryan, Mehl and Buffone each had a pair of hits in the loss. Mehl also stole his 11th base of the season.

The Terps will be in action next when they play host to the University of Delaware at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, Md., at 7 p.m.
