HARRISONBURG, Va. -
The University of Maryland wrapped up competition at its regular-season finale, the James Madison Invitational, Sunday. Labelle Hillgrove had the Terrapins' sole victory of the meet in the discus throw, and the team will now prepare for the ECAC/IC4A Championships next weekend in New Haven, Conn.
Hillgrove came in first in the discus with a throw of 142-08. Heather Houston had an all-around solid performance at the meet, finishing third in the 200-meter dash (24.86), sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.22), sixth in the javelin (99-10) and second in the long jump with a season-best and NCAA regional qualifying leap of 20-04.25.
Freshman Zhanna Barer was tied for fourth in the pole vault (11-03.75), while Bria Johnson was fifth in the shot put (44-03.50). Zakiya Shivers finished fourth in the discus with a 135-02.
The top men's finishers of the day were Harold Manning and John Collins, who each earned runner-up honors. Manning was second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.03 and earned a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter dash (47.61). Collins was second in the hammer throw with a 181-00.
Adam Durham was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.68, while Beau Fay earned third-place honors in the discus throw (139-04) and the hammer throw (174-10).
