The Maryland women's swimming and diving team moved into fourth-place after tonight's finals session. Connecticut continues to lead the pack with 624 points followed by NC State (530), West Virginia (355) and Maryland (301.5). The men's team falls to sixth-place after tonight. NC State leads with 735.5 followed by West Virginia (617), Connecticut (492), West Chester (300), William & Mary (195), and Maryland (186).

 

Senior Krisztina Kovacs (Budapest, Hungary) finished second in the 100-breast (1:03.22), while sophomore Emily Smoak (Salisbury, Md.) finished in 18th-place. Freshman Yelena Skalinskaya (Almaty, Kazakhstan) came in 24th in the 100-breast (1:12.05) and  13th in the 200-free.

 

Senior Inbal Levavi (Kibutz Givat Haim, Israel) finished third in the 400-IM (4:27.59) and 10th in the 100-back (58.76). Junior Natalie Ferdinand (St. Thomas, Barbados) swam to a 16th-place finish in the 100-back. Senior Barbara Sumrall (Chattanooga, Tenn) finished the night with a sixth-place finish in the 100-fly.

 

On the men's side, senior Andrew Foran (Atascadero, Calif.) led the team in the 400-IM finishing 11th, followed by junior Tony Miller (Severna Park, Md.) in 16th-place, junior Rob Cabrera (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) in 22nd-place, and sophomore Joey Mechek (Rockville, Md.) in 23rd-place. Sophomre Eric Thomasson (Severna Park, Md.) finished 22nd in the 100-fly (53.04) and 17th in the 100-back (53.85).

 

In the 200-free, freshman Matt Golebiewski (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) finished ninth in 1:43.60, followed by senior Patrick Doyle (Norfolk, Va.) in 1:44.40. Freshman Kevin Rybicki (Lancaster, Pa.) ended the night finishing 24th in the 200-free and 20th in the 100-breast. Freshman Eric Cullen (Severn, Md.) ended the night finishing 13th in the 100-breast followed by Miller in 21st.

 

Action continues tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Campus Recreation Center.
