Final Stats

DURHAM, N.C. - The Maryland offense scored its most runs in over a month, and Chris Bowen didn't allow an earned run in 6.0 innings to lead Maryland to a 13-3 win over Duke on Saturday. Truan Mehl tied a career high with five hits and was one of three Terps to score three runs in the game. Will Frazier and Joe Palumbo each had two hits and three runs, and Jordan Wilson had three hits and drove in three runs in the win.

Mehl tied his own team season-high of five this in a game with a 5-for-6 afternoon, three runs, two RBI and a stolen base, and Frazier went 2-for-4 with three runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Joe Palumbo scored three runs and went 2-for-3, and Chad Durakis and Matt Maropis had two RBI apiece.

Chris Bowen moved to 2-2 on the season with six innings and no earned runs. He struck out four and walked one on his way to lowering his season ERA from 3.86 to 3.07.

Maryland got out of the gates quickly, scoring four runs on three two-out hits in the first inning. Truan Mehl singled to start the inning and stole second base. Will Frazier followed with single into right-center field, and then moved to second when Jordan Wilson was hit by a pitch. Chad Durakis was hit by Duke starter Danny Otero's next pitch to load the bases, and all three runners moved up on a wild pitch to Matt Maropis. Frazier scored from third on the play, and Maropis lined a 2-2 offering into right-center field to score Wilson and Durakis. Maropis' eighth and ninth RBI of the season put the Terps up 4-0 heading into the bottom of the first inning.

After Chris Bowen worked through a scoreless inning, the Maryland offense came back with two more runs in the top of the second. Joe Palumbo led off the inning with a walk, and Elliot Singletary singled to put runners on first and second base with no outs. Dan Melvin bunted the runners to second and third base with his team-leading seventh sacrifice bunt of the season, and Truan Mehl and Jordan Wilson both came through with RBI singles to give the Terps a 6-0 lead.

Bowen worked through five scoreless innings, and Maryland tacked on runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings to go up 10-0. Duke got to Bowen in the bottom half of the sixth inning, using two hits to score two unearned runs.

Bowen gave way to Casey Baron in the seventh after going 6.0 innings with four hits and four strikeouts. He eventually got his second win of the season and lowered his season ERA to 3.07.

Baron walked a couple of Duke hitters in the seventh, which led to an RBI single by Jonathan Anderson. Baron worked out of the inning with back-to-back strikeouts to end the threat.

Brad Taylor worked a scoreless eighth, and Seth Overbey worked a scoreless ninth to preserve the Terps' 10-run lead.
